Client: Energy Centre Developer
Project type: ICP/Renewable Energy
Location: Scotland
Completion Date: April 2026
Project Value: £1,200,000.00
Detailed Project Overview:
HVDC’s scope commenced with the electrical design and engineering review of the Balance of Plant infrastructure, ensuring full integration was achieved between the Battery Energy Storage System, Power conversion equipment, Protection systems, and the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) interface. This included the development of cable routing layouts, containment design, earthing arrangements, termination schedules, and construction deliverables to support efficient site installation and programme compliance.
A comprehensive containment system was designed and installed across the site to accommodate the extensive HV, LV, DC and communications cabling network. This included cable ladder and tray inside precast troughs and underneath the switchroom to support systems engineered to provide safe segregation of power, control and fibre optic circuits whilst ensuring long-term maintainability and reliability of the installation.
The project involved the procurement, installation and termination of all site-wide HV, LV, DC and SCADA cabling systems. HVDC undertook the installation of several kilometres of power and control cabling, providing complete cable management from equipment interfaces through to the grid connection point. Attention was given to cable routing, identification, testing and quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with project specifications, LRQA/NERS, G81’s and industry standards.
Specialist jointing and termination services formed a key element of the project delivery. HVDC carried out all HV, LV and DC cable jointing and terminations associated with the BESS infrastructure, including connections to transformers, inverters, battery containers and auxiliary systems. In addition, HVDC delivered the DNO 33kV cable jointing and termination works, facilitating the critical connection between the new installation and the local distribution network provider.
The scope also included the installation of site-wide lighting systems, earthing infrastructure, communications networks and associated electrical balance of plant equipment required to support the safe operation of the facility.
HVDC provided comprehensive testing and commissioning services across all electrical systems. This included cable testing, protection and control verification, SCADA integration, functional testing, energisation planning, and final commissioning activities. Working closely with our client, equipment manufacturers and DNO representatives, HVDC successfully coordinated the energisation process and achieved programme-critical milestones in line with the client’s delivery requirements.
